The Art Work Of Judi Pearl Pulaski

On this page you will see a sampling of some of my paintings on canvas, porcelain, feathers, leaves and saws.  I also love to paint on glass including glass lamps.  For 20 years I took  a group of women with similar interests  to Parke County, Indiana where we found lots of "goodies" to paint on.  There are so many flea markets and antique shops there, it is a never ending supply of neat one of a kind things to find to paint.  If it sits too long...it may end up with a picture on it!
Our favorite  place to go to paint is the Ocooch Mountains of Wisconsin.  We have a cabin there and it offers us so many subjects with the old barns, school houses and Amish settlements.  The scenery is just breathtaking!!!  You leave very inspired with lots of pictures to paint from!  Some people like to say we are in the middle of nowhere......we like to think we are now here!

This feather of a deer was painted and put in a shadow box
lined with leather and glass top - Special order for Wildlife Federation
I will have painted wolves, bears, deer, moose, eagles, etc on these.

Leaf painting is really fun.  I collect the leaves, then preserve them before plainting.
Just about any subject can be painted on the right leaf!

with leather backing for the Wildlife Federation

 deer

These deer are painted on Porcelain eggs.  The one on the right is a first fire...painted with yellow brown #2 and turp only - no oil.  This technique was used so it dried fast and was easier to handle.  It took 4 fires for completion.  Any animal laying down can be done and I usually do raccoons, foxes, deer, cats, dogs, horses, etc.

This picture was painted on a porcelain medallion.  I saw a similar picture in an advertisement for bathroom fixtures.  It put me in mind of me and my son when he was a baby and something I just felt compelled to paint.

This is my beloved little dog Pompii Cesaer the Pomeranian.  I first painted the border of this paper weight with 3 shades of green in a malachite pattern. I then fluffed him in with rich brown - pulling all of the lights out and making sure to put his little face in first.  I always paint the face and eyes first so that it seems that the animal is looking at me.  I then  applied washes of yellow brown and black..  Highlights were put on last using acrylic white and a glass medium that matures in 2 weeks or can be baked in your conventional oven!

"Kiss Baby" - painted on an 8 x 10 porcelain tile.  This is my favorite piece.  This was painted from an antique photo.  The background has 9 layers of black green.  Rich brown and yellow brown was used on the wood, transparency was used on the hair for the blond effect.  The skin was painted with Jane Marcks portrait colors.  Jane is my favorite porcelain artist and love her paints. Her paints are used for all the portraits that I paint.  This picture is framed in an elegant gold antique looking frame with a cream colored mat.  I have printed cards  with this design which are for sale too....Check the "Art for Sale page........
(This original painting is $500.00 but I do sell prints of this)

My friend Paula from Nebraska brought me this tractor seat and a thumb nail sketch of her father-in-law's farm to paint.  They had  Holstein cows and she is a taxidermist by trade - hence the pheasant.  It was a fun piece to paint once all the preparation was done.  I love to tell a story and paint on unusual items.

Our State WOCP has compiled a cookbook and asked that I design the front cover of the book.  I wanted it to depict typical life in Wisconsin and include all the painted china that we do.  This was painted on an 8" x 8" porcelain tile.  I first drew out the design directly on the tile and blocked in all the dark around the plates and china to be designed.  At this time each plate was designed individually and the plate was fired at 016.  I followed this procedure 3 more times until completion.  The first fire I like to do at 016, then 017 and the final fire at 018.
